Experience the magic of Cayamo’s 17th Journey Through Song— a seven-day celebration of musical creativity, collaboration, and discovery sailing February 28 - March 7, 2025, from Miami to St. Croix, USVI and St. John's, Antigua aboard the beautiful Norwegian Gem. Click on any photo below to view the gallery as a full-size slideshow. She did “Barbed Wire Boys” in the audience and sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on the Atrium staircase. Sunny War has long been a BGS favorite and she’s certainly one not-to-miss during Cayamo 2024. Her music is often touted for its combination of blues and punk, but even a fleeting exposure to her particular musical stylings reveals she is an artist all her own.

Before launching Music Mayhem in 2014, he worked as a highly sought-after photojournalist and tour photographer, collaborating with such labels as Interscope Records and Republic Records. He has captured photos of some of the biggest names, including Taylor Swift, Metallica, Harry Styles, P! NK, Morgan Wallen, Carrie Underwood, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Shania Twain, and hundreds more. Wendowski’s photos and freelance work have appeared nationwide and can be seen everywhere from ad campaigns to various publications, including Billboard and Rolling Stone. When Wendowski isn’t running Music Mayhem, he enjoys spending time at concerts, traveling, and capturing photos. Gabe Lee’s songs reminded me of early Jason Isbell and John Prine but with his own distinct voice.

Abe Partridge had me laughing and crying at his Great Outdoors show on the sun-drenched back deck. Do not miss this unique songwriter and folk artist if he comes to your town. In addition to the Cayamo performing veterans, some newer artists delighted the crowds as well. Voted onto the ship via the cruise’s Soundcheck competition, Kyshona’s powerful vocals had audiences calling her a force of nature. You know them from their work with Peter Mulvey, Allison Russell, Brandi Carlile, Brandy Clark, and many more, but SistaStrings aren’t just a premier string duo working as side musicians with all your favs in Americana – they’re impeccable as a stand-alone group, too.

Black Opry, a loose association of Black artists in country, Americana, blues, folk and roots music, presented numerous sets that were among my favorite Cayamo moments. The highlight for me was a writers-in-the-round set with performances from Leyla McCalla, Dom Flemons, Jon Muq, Sunny War, SistaStrings, The Kentucky Gentlemen, Brady Blade, Ping Rose, and The War and Treaty. The 16th edition of the Cayamo cruise set sail from Miami on March 1 for a week of roots music at sea. Promoted by founder Sixthman as “A Journey Through Song,” the floating festival once again delivered on its promise of unforgettable sets and rare collaborative performances that can only occur on a self-contained ship. The comingling of the performers with one another, and with their fans, is not accidental nor merely encouraged, it’s a prerequisite.

What happens with the cost of my non-refundable travel if I am not placed in a stateroom prior to sailing?

This sailing is ideal for American music lovers and acoustic guitar fans who like a variety of genres and are also drawn to the idea of joining a "music family." Many cruisers cite the friends they've made over repeated Cayamo voyages as part of the draw. As a 29-year-old entrepreneur, he oversees content as the Editor-In-Chief for the independent brand. Wendowski, who splits time between Philadelphia, Penn., and Nashville, Tenn., has an extensive background in multimedia.

What is the Norwegian Cruise Line Guest Conduct Policy?

This marks the 14th installment of Cayamo, which first launched in 2008. The 2022 cruise sails from Miami to St. Thomas and St. Kitts. Please note during the daytime this room would be considered a listening room, make sure to check the daily schedule as there will be a natural flow from listening room to dancing room. Grab your dancing shoes and get ready for some upbeat jams. Bands featured in the Atrium will have drums and beats to get your souls dancing towards the evening.

There’s nobody out there who quite sounds like Sunny War. In today’s day and age, it seems like one must choose between capitalism or community… or is that really the case? Is there a way that these two can live side by side in the music industry? We’ll discuss all that and more in this very special live recording of FOLK DEBATE CLUB AT SEA! Steve Poltz also was a favorite and he played a big tribute show to the Rolling Stones.

Music Mayhem brings fans closer to their favorite artists with exclusive in-depth interviews, breaking news updates, and more. There is no one more revered or beloved in the roots music world than Buddy Miller. So it was fitting that he kicked things off before our Miami departure, telling passengers “It’s good to be home.” Backed by Phil Madeira, Brady Blade, and Dave Jacques, and with guests Steve Fishell, Shawn Colvin, The War and Treaty, and Eamon McLaughlin, Miller had us in tears of joy. With female artists almost in equal numbers with male artists, and Black and LGBTQ+ artists well represented, it was most likely the most diverse lineup in the festival’s history.

Since 2008, the Cayamo Cruise -- also known as the Journey Through Song -- has brought together musicians of diverse genres for one of the most eclectic festivals at sea -- and it's back for 2023. Cayamo draws many repeat cruisers, so if you're interested, it's best to sign up for the pre-sale, as cabins begin booking long before the lineup is announced. Norwegian Gem is your ultimate playground on the high seas!

There were many young artists that were able to play with their heroes and held their own, such as Gabe Lee (another artist voted onto the cruise via the Soundcheck competition), who with his band backed Raul Malo in his solo show. I especially enjoyed Jenny Owen Youngs’ performances, Sunny War’s maturity, and Alexa Rose’s relatable themes. As we we sailed out of port, The Mavericks had those of us at Pool Deck up and dancing. Lyle Lovett brought a top-notch version of his acoustic group for two fast-paced shows.

Dawes, the Mavericks, Richard Thompson, Indigo Girls, and Ruthie Foster are also on the cruise, set for March 18th through 25th. This year’s theme is “A Journey Through Song.” Other artists include the Jayhawks, Kathleen Edwards, Shawn Mullins, John Paul White, the Secret Sisters, Sierra Hull, Allison Russell, Brittney Spencer, Ida Mae, and TrĂ© Burt. After being dry-docked by the pandemic, the Cayamo Cruise is returning to the water in 2022. The concert-at-sea company Sixthman announced Cayamo’s lineup on Wednesday, a robust schedule with Punch Brothers, Emmylou Harris, and Grace Potter among the headliners. A great listening room venue for guest jams throughout Cayamo, and an occasional late night hang for impromptu sessions.

We’ll be catching their set on Saturday, March 2, but we’ll also be keeping an eye out for them to pop up with many other performers on the lineup throughout the voyage. Many of Cayamo's first-timers this sailing were women and they put on a wide variety of shows. The Covid crisis sidelined the concert cruise industry since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, canceling cruises by artists like Kiss, Melissa Etheridge, and Kesha. In January, Sixthman announced the return of Outlaw Country Cruise, which, like Cayamo, will sail in 2022.

Somewhat amusingly, the song featured an unplanned bit of brass as the Pearl sounded her horn, indicating that she was pulling out of Miami and heading for the lush Caribbean islands of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and St. Maarten. Jaime would be a big part of the entire show, standing next to his father and reeling off licks on acoustic and electric guitars throughout. Jeff spoke of the late John Prine, an artist the NGDB had a long relationship with, before playing Prine's "Grandpa Was a Carpenter." The end of the Prine cover was a perfect time for the band to break out a traditional gospel number, "Take Me in Your Lifeboat." A great venue for sea days and night entertainment, you can enjoy shows out on the deck lounging in a chair or dancing on the lawn, and even watch our largest artist collaborations with the entire Cayamo Family. Lounge Chairs on Deck 13 of the Pool Deck will be cleared nightly for all Pool Deck shows, but we will have rows of stools available on Deck 13 at all times.
